Hue, Vietnam: Golf clubs on Vietnam’s Central Coast can expect a strong rebound from the international market once travel restrictions ease following the Covid-19 pandemic.
With seven courses now within a two-hour radius of Danang International Airport, Adam Calver is confident the region will quickly re-establish itself as a favourite destination among golfing tourists from Southeast Asia and beyond.
Calver, Director of Golf at Laguna Golf Lăng Cô and a Board Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation, said: “For us, and all the courses on the Vietnam ‘golf coast’ in the Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An area, we were seeing phenomenal growth coming into the pandemic.
“There was a new course opening almost every year in a two-hour radius of Danang International Airport, so there was a lot of international hype.
“There was a lot of interest in the region, but as the pandemic closed in we lost about 80 per cent of our golf market.
“What is fortunate is that we saw a big rebound domestically. The good thing for us was that two of the newest courses opened up in the pandemic. So we think there will be a very strong rebound from the international market with a high demand to come and see the two new courses.”
As well as the Robert Trent Jones II-designed Hoiana Shores Golf Club, a second course has opened and BRG Danang Golf Club, sculpted by Nicklaus Design.
“So, we now have seven courses within a two-hour radius of Danang Airport and five of the courses are ranked in Vietnam’s top seven courses. That gives us the country’s most outstanding cluster of golf courses,” said Calver, whose club is part of the Asian Tour Destinations network.
