Brisbane, Australia: Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) General Manager Ian Roberts has been honoured by the PGA of Australia.
Roberts was named International PGA Professional of the Year ‘in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions over the past 12 months’.
A former touring pro, Roberts has been a respected figure in the Asian golf industry for more than 15 years, during which time he’s managed prominent clubs in Indonesia and Singapore.
A night dedicated to the accomplishments of PGA of Australia members across all areas of the golf industry in Australia and internationally, the PGA Awards formally kicked off last week’s BMW Australian PGA Championship and also acknowledged the country’s world-class players at home and abroad.
PGA of Australia CEO, Gavin Kirkman, congratulated all PGA Awards winners and nominees.
Kirkman said: “The strength of golf in Australia is built upon the contributions made by our PGA Professionals, with their influence spanning every level of the game.
“Whether guiding Major champions, finding fun ways to bring juniors into our sport, managing facilities, or providing wonderful experiences plus service to golf club members across Australia, PGA Professionals are the custodians driving our sport forward.
“I wish to congratulate all our PGA Awards nominees and winners and thank them for their contributions and how they have impacted golf in Australia and overseas over the past 12 months.”
Over the course of the past year, Roberts has been instrumental in the reopening of the SICC’s Island Course and was also heavily involved in the SICC’s staging of the Singapore Open, which returned to the calendar after a three-year hiatus.
General Manager at The Glades Golf Club in his native Australia from 2003 to 2007, Roberts then headed to Indonesia, initially as General Manager at Golf Indonesia and then in the same role at Taman Dayu Golf Club & Resort.
In 2015 he moved to Singapore as Director of Golf & Sports at Tanah Merah Country Club, where he spent almost seven years.
Following a stint as Director of Golf at Royal Sydney Golf Club, he returned to Singapore as General Manager at SICC in mid-2023.
