Singapore: Brooks Koepka has named Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course as the best layout on the LIV Golf League schedule.
Ahead of his title defence in this week’s LIV Golf Singapore presented by Aramco, five-time Major champion Koepka spoke of his affection for Singapore and Sentosa.
The Smash GC captain said: “I am excited to be back in Singapore, I’ve had good results here. It’s just a cool country and the golf course is great – I think it’s the best course we play.
“Sentosa is pretty cool. You look at that whole front side – it’s all about positioning and being in the right spot, making sure you either hit the fairway or you’re positioned correctly. That’s what I think a good golf course tests you on.”
This week, Koepka said he hopes to draw inspiration from his victory at Sentosa 10 months ago on a layout that was named Best Golf Course in Asia at the World Golf Awards in 2024.
“Everything was really solid. I didn’t make too many mistakes. It’s a great feeling when it kind of feels easy,” he said, referencing his two-shot win over Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith last year.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson, who made his Singapore Open debut on The Serapong in 2007, hopes his resurgence in last week’s LIV Golf Hong Kong will continue at Sentosa.
At the Hong Kong Golf Club, the HyFlyers GC left-hander who has won three of his six Majors at Augusta National placed third behind Sergio Garcia and Dean Burmester.
Mickelson said: “The fact is, I’m hitting a lot of good shots. I’m playing some good golf. This is a building week as I continue to build into LIV and my goal of accomplishing a win in LIV as well as winning another Major or getting ready for Augusta.”
The man in the best form heading into LIV Golf Singapore is Spaniard Garcia, whose victory at LIV Golf Hong Kong catapulted the former Masters champion to the top of the LIV Golf individual season standings.
Like Koepka and Mickelson, Garcia is no stranger to Sentosa having won the Singapore Open in 2018 and finished runner-up at the inaugural LIV Golf Singapore in 2023.
The Fireballs GC captain recorded a three-shot victory at LIV Golf Hong Kong, steering his side to the team title for a memorable double and taking top spot in the LIV Golf team season standings.
The 2017 Masters champion, who finished third in the season-long LIV Golf individual championship race in 2024, moved to the top of the points standings after the first three events in 2025 with the win.
Given his form, the Spaniard is certain to be under consideration by Luke Donald for a wild card pick for the European team in September’s Ryder Cup.
Garcia, who will be playing in his 100th Major at next month’s Masters, said: “The only thing I can do is keep playing good golf. I just want to help the European team like I’ve tried to do every single time I’ve been a member of that team. Hopefully he will think I’m good enough for it. It will be important for me to play well this week.”
