Hue, Vietnam: Laguna Golf Lăng Cô, the award-winning Sir Nick Faldo Signature course nestled between jungle-clad mountains and the East Sea, continues to raise the bar for golf in Asia.
With a reputation for innovation, sustainability, and world-class playing conditions, the club has taken another bold step by appointing Jason Blacka as its new Director of Agronomy – Course Maintenance.
Blacka brings a wealth of international experience to the role, having led turf and agronomy operations across Vietnam, China, and the United States. His résumé includes high-profile projects such as Hidden Tiger Golf Club, Cimarron Hills G&CC, and Legend Hill Golf Resort.
Known for his adaptability, technical expertise, and leadership, Blacka has consistently delivered excellence in diverse climates and challenging terrains. His recent work with Witgang Far East and OUTFIELD Nursery Enterprises saw him manage multiple grow-ins and consult on turf solutions across Southeast Asia.
At Laguna Lang Co, Blacka is already making his mark. “We’re re-establishing putting surfaces and expanding our turf nurseries as we transition back to Zoysia matrella,” he said. “We’re also adopting enhanced staff training and implementing customised agronomic practices to maintain optimal turf health and playability year-round.”
These efforts are part of a broader initiative to elevate course conditioning, aesthetics, and sustainability – hallmarks of the Laguna Lang Co experience.
The club’s commitment to environmental stewardship is also evident in its unique use of water buffalo as ‘bio-mowers’ in the rice paddies that weave through the course. A second shelter is currently under construction to protect these beloved animals during Vietnam’s stormy season, reinforcing Laguna’s reputation for innovation and care for the eco-system.
This renewed focus on agronomy comes at a perfect time, as the club prepares to host the 2025 Cobra Puma Charity Pro-Am, proudly partnered with Sports Turf Solutions (STS) and LGI. Following the success of last year’s event – which raised more than 1.3 billion VND – the 2025 edition promises to be even more impactful. While the event is known for its colourful outfits and light-hearted competition, its purpose is deeply meaningful.
This year’s Pro-Am will support:
A tournament spokesperson said: “As anticipation builds, the message is clear: this event is about more than just golf. It’s about community, compassion, and the golf community making a difference.”
