Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Sime Darby Property’s Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) has appointed six-time Major champion Sir Nick Faldo as the club’s Golf Course Design Consultant.
Following a signing ceremony at the club, Sir Nick highlighted his vision to elevate KLGCC’s East Course.
Leveraging the existing natural landscape of the course, including its lush trees, water features, and appealing terrain, Sir Nick said he and his Faldo Design team aim to transform it into a golf course of exceptional quality, aligning with KLGCC’s standards.
Additionally, through this partnership, KLGCC will host two notable Faldo Series tournaments – the Faldo Junior Tour and the Faldo Futures Malaysia Qualifying Event.
These tournaments will offer Malaysian golfers aged between seven and 21 the chance to engage in competitive golf within an enriching environment and pathway to gain international exposure, following in the footsteps of Faldo Series alumni such as Rory McIlroy, Tseng Ya-ni, and Malaysia’s very own Kelly Tan.
Sir Nick said: “My on-going involvement in golf extends beyond Faldo Design through my passion for junior golf in The Faldo Series.
“Therefore, having the opportunity to bring the Faldo Series to KLGCC will undoubtedly bring a platform for children to experience competitive golf in a great environment and open up opportunities for them to progress their golf within a global series of golf tournaments.
“We will bring to KLGCC the Faldo Futures (for seven-to-12-year-olds), giving them the chance to have an early fun introduction to golf competitions and then progress to the Junior Tour (for 13-to-21-year-olds) which are 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) events. Players will have the opportunity to progress to my Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.”
Joining the signing ceremony between Sir Nick and Jordan Ng, Director of KLGCC Berhad, were Tun Musa Hitam, KLGCC Club President; Datuk Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, KLGCC Club Captain; Adam Calver, KLGCC General Manager; and Mark Adams representing Faldo Design Inc.
Axel Cruau, Ambassador of France to Malaysia, BN Reddy, High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, along with members of Sime Darby Property’s Board and senior management team, KLGCC officials, KLGCC members and invited guests were also present to mark the occasion.
Established in 1991, KLGCC is renowned for its world-class facilities and lush greenery, strategically situated just eight kilometres from Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant city centre.
Its championship courses have notably hosted major tournaments, including events on the PGA Tour, European Tour, and LPGA Tour, all within a single year for three consecutive years.
