Algarve, Portugal: DETAILS and John Deere have signed an agreement which will see the American manufacturer become the exclusive golf machinery supplier for the Old Course Vilamoura.

The partnership between the trusted turf equipment leaders and DETAILS, the Arrow Global-owned hospitality and sports platform which oversees multiple golf courses, hotels and leisure assets in Portugal, will see the Old Course continue to be presented in outstanding condition.

The machinery and training provided will cover all the specific maintenance requirements for the Old Course.

Machinery purchases will be made through local supplier Torre Marco, who will be responsible for day-to-day management, including the supplying of necessary equipment, and will also carry out regular reviews as part of the agreement.

Mechanics and golf technicians will undergo technical training on a yearly basis, focusing on the efficient use of machinery and how best to optimise the functionality of the John Deere equipment for the Old Course.

Nuno Sepulveda, Co-CEO of DETAILS, said: “The Old Course is cherished by golfers around the world and there’s an expectation of excellence we are obliged to maintain for every new and returning visitor.

“Partnering with John Deere helps us ensure the pristine state of the Old Course, as we continue to set our exceptional golfing standards among the very best in Europe.”

Paul Baulieu, John Deere’s Golf & Turf Manager, said: “John Deere looks forward to further developing the partnership with Arrow Global. The exclusive features and technologies, such as connectivity of all machines up to self-guidance for sprayer will truly benefit the Old Course with an optimum cost control. Steering for best course conditions is our common goal while moving together with this partnering experience.”

Gil Gomes, CEO Torre Marco, John Deere Ag & Golf dealer, said: “This new partnership is key to continue underlining our strong company value focused on bringing the best customer experience with high spec premium products, while being close to our customer and delivering top-class support.”

Since being acquired by Arrow Global and placed under the management of DETAILS in 2023, the Old Course, the second oldest in the Algarve, has undergone a remarkable transformation.

Improvements have spanned both on and off the course, with a renewed focus on sustainability and elevated standards. Key upgrades include a state-of-the-art irrigation system, the strategic replacement of non-playable areas with wood chippings to reduce water consumption, and enhancements that honour the course’s heritage whilst improving playability.

The clubhouse has also been extensively renovated, featuring a reimagined restaurant concept, a VIP gated club area, and valet parking. These efforts have been recognised through GEO and Biosphere certifications, reinforcing the course’s long-term commitment to sustainable golf.

Beyond the visible upgrades, a renewed guest experience philosophy is now at the heart of the Old Course. Every touchpoint has been elevated, from service standards to the partnerships that help define excellence in modern golf.

The implementation of Trackman technology – one of the largest installations in Portugal and the only one in the Algarve – offers players a new level of insight. Collaborations with other industry leaders further enrich the offering, aligning the Old Course with the highest international benchmarks in service and performance.
