Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia: Kelab Golf Sarawak, one of Malaysia’s most historic golfing venues, has joined the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) as a Facility member.
Commonly referred to as KGS, the club is nestled near Kuching City in the heart of Sarawak, on the island of Borneo.
Previously known by its English name of Sarawak Golf and Country Club, at the club’s annual meeting in 2022 it was voted to assume the Bahasa Melayu version ‘Kelab Golf Sarawak’.
Featuring breathtaking scenery and world-class amenities, the club boasts four nine-hole layouts. The distinctive, pyramid-shaped clubhouse stands as a grand centrepiece, dividing the Matang/Santubong 18 to the south and the Siol/Demak 18 to the north.
Opened in 1983 and upgraded in 1990, the Matang/Santubong course is named after Sarawak’s prominent geographical landmarks, the two famous mountain ranges – Santubong and Matang, some 25 kilometres from the club.
The Siol/Demak 18, unveiled in 1995, is located in the northern side of the clubhouse.
The club has been a six-time host to the Professional Golf Tour of Malaysia’s Sarawak Classic and has twice staged the Malaysian Open Amateur championship.
Terence Lee Yeow Kong, General Manager at KGS, said: “Our meticulously maintained courses are designed to challenge and inspire, while our clubhouse offers a welcoming retreat with a variety of dining and leisure options.
“Kelab Golf Sarawak aims to be a premier club in the region by offering unparalleled experiences to both golfers and non-golfers.
“We envision a vibrant community of members of diverse background who appreciate the natural beauty of Sarawak while enjoying challenging courses and other club’s facilities and services.”
Chris Gray, President of the AGIF, said: “Kelab Golf Sarawak is steeped in history and tradition. We are delighted to welcome this outstanding facility into the Federation fold.”
In addition to its golfing facilities, the club has an eight-lane Olympic-size swimming pool, while an indoor multi-purpose hall houses badminton and squash courts. There are also floodlit tennis and pickleball courts and a fully-equipped gym.
The F&B outlets offer a diverse selection of cuisines, including Western, Asean, and fusion, while the Siol Banquet Hall can accommodate up to 500 guests.
