China Q Series Set for Laguna National

Singapore: Laguna National Golf Resort Club will offer a pathway into the professional game for Singaporean youngsters via a China Ladies Professional Golfers (CLPG) Q Series.

Supported by EFG Bank AG as title sponsor, as well as showcasing professional talent, organisers are confident the four-part event will attract the interest of young amateur golfers.

In partnership with LLD Sports, this will mark the first time the CLPGQ Series has been held outside China.

All four qualifiers will take place at the award-winning Laguna National Golf Resort Club, a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

The first event is scheduled for May 27-28 and will also act as a qualifier for the China LPGA Tour’s Singapore Ladies Masters from June 14-16.

“We are delighted to partner with LLD Sports in bringing the EFG CLPG Q Singapore Series to fruition,” said Albert Chiu, Executive Chairman, Asia Pacific at EFG.

He added: “This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting the development of women’s golf, not only in Singapore but across the entire region, as well as our commitment to enriching the local sports scene and empowering athletes to achieve their full potential.

“We believe that the EFG CLPGQ Singapore Series will not only inspire the next generation of golfers but also contribute to the overall growth and development of this sport in the region.”

Inaugurated in 2020, the CLPG Q Series is a development circuit that serves as the qualifying pathway to the China LPGA Tour. It’s equivalent to the Epson Tour in the US, offering its top finishers promotion to the LPGA Tour.

Next month’s two-day tournament at Laguna National, with prize money of S$10,000, will also serve as the qualifier for the Singapore Ladies Masters. The 54-hole qualifier will accommodate a field of up to 72 players, with a maximum of 18 participants from mainland China. Three spots, with one reserved for a Singaporean competitor, will be offered to the top three qualifiers.

The CLPGQ Series event is open not only to women professionals and amateurs but also to amateur men, giving them the opportunity to earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

Participants will play 36 holes on the first day, with only the top 50 players and ties advancing to the third and final round.

Prize money will be awarded solely to the top 10 finishers and ties. As an additional incentive for amateur golfers to compete against their professional counterparts, they will be eligible for prize money if they finish in the top 10, with a limit of US$1,000 per event.

LLD Sports Founder Lyn Yeo looks forward to introducing the CLPGQ Series to Singapore’s golfing scene, alongside the second edition of the Singapore Ladies Masters in June.

Yeo said: “I’m excited to partner EFG and Albert. We are both passionate about sports and share a long-term vision to develop champion golfers in Singapore. It has always been my goal to provide a platform for new and aspiring professionals, as well as elite amateurs, to gain invaluable experience and showcase their talents.

“This EFG CLPGQ Singapore Series offers up-and-coming Singapore amateurs the chance to compete against top regional and Chinese talent, fostering their growth and development. With live streaming available via the CLPGQ Series app, US college coaches can track players’ performances, opening doors for potential recruitment opportunities.

“In fact, numerous players in China have received college offers after participating in the CLPGQ Series. Therefore, our top junior golfers such as Troy Storm, Bruce Kwong, Passion Hsu and Sydnie Ng are eager to capitalise on these opportunities, showcasing their talents and leaving a lasting impression on potential selectors.”
