Sentosa Golf Club’s Junior Initiative

Singapore: Sentosa Golf Club has announced a new initiative in support of junior golfers in Singapore during this week’s HSBC Women’s World Championship.

For every birdie made on The Tanjong’s 18th hole during the LPGA Tour event, a free round of golf will be given away to a junior in 2024 as part of the Club’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

With 39 birdies recorded on the hole last year, a new test will welcome the world’s best, with the addition of a large new fairway bunker, designed to create an elevated challenge and increase risk-reward off the tee, as players decide whether to lay up or take on the required yardage to set up the best possible approach shot.

Ahead of the event, the Club has also added three new female players to its local sponsorship programme, providing Singapore Golf Association National Squad members Chen Xing Tong and Aloysa Atienza, as well as professional Amanda Tan, with access to the venue’s Tanjong and Serapong courses and world-class practice facilities.

The 16-year-old Chen is excited to represent Sentosa Golf Club and Singapore at this year’s HSBC Women’s World Championship, after winning the national qualifier event on The Tanjong in January.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Chen said: “I am extremely grateful and privileged to be sponsored by Sentosa Golf Club. Having the opportunity to play across their world-class courses will provide me with invaluable experience, elevating my game to new heights.

“I hope to use this to my advantage as competing in the HSBC Women’s World Championship is a dream come true and I’m excited to showcase my skills on the world stage.”

Sentosa Golf Club General Manager, Director of Agronomy, and Resident Golf Course Designer, Andrew Johnston, said: “Since the launch of #KeepitGreen in 2018, the Club has passionately embraced its role as a driving force behind the development of golf in Singapore.

“Our dedication to junior golf is designed to create a sustainable and thriving golfing community, ensuring that the sport continues to flourish for generations to come.

“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are proud to support our sponsored players, such as the talented Chen Xing Tong, who embody the spirit of excellence we strive for.

“Supporting each player on the world stage is a source of great excitement for us. This is why the HSBC Women’s World Championship stands as the perfect setting to unveil our wider plans for this year, while reinforcing why the Club is renowned for being one of the world’s best championship venues.”

Sentosa Golf Club’s 50th anniversary celebrations are set to continue throughout the year, with plans to host a non-members golf day in October, providing the public with the opportunity to experience Sentosa Golf Club’s famous tournament-ready 365 conditioning first-hand.

Interested participants can apply for the event through an official ballot, in which applicants will be asked to recall their favourite stories or memories of Sentosa Golf Club. Further information on timings for the opening of the ballot will be released in due course.

The Club is also set to reinforce its world-class tournament venue status in just two months, welcoming global golfing superstars from the LIV Golf League to The Serapong.
