Singapore: The Singapore Golf Association’s (SGA) high performance and junior development programmes will benefit to the tune of more than S$720,000 thanks to generous support from sponsors and donors.

Staged at Sentosa Golf Club’s Tanjong Course, the SGA’s Fund-raising Golf 2023 attracted some 300 donors and guests, including Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong, who graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

A total of more than S$360,000 was raised over the course of the two-day gathering. That figure will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government through the One Team Singapore Fund (OTSF).

“We would like to sincerely thank all donors and supporters for their generosity in contributing to SGA’s high-performance and junior development programme,” said Tan Chong Huat, President of the SGA, an Associate Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

“I am confident that with the unwavering support from key stakeholders, including our sponsors and donors, our athletes will be able to create a legacy of excellence and continue to produce talented athletes who will represent us proudly on the international stage as they chase their Olympic dreams and bring glory to Singapore,” added Tan.

Aloysa Atienza, the 2022 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games silver medallist who will represent Singapore at next month’s 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, said: “I’m extremely grateful to everyone who has been supporting us over the years. It is a confidence booster as we know that there are many people behind us, who believe in our journey and our potential.

“The continued support from our donors and sponsors who have stood by us during our highs and lows, is particularly heartening. With the SEA Games coming up, it’s a bigger motivation because we know we’re playing for these supporters and not just ourselves.”

Fundraiser Organising Chairman and SGA Honorary Treasurer Eddie Chua said: “It is very gratifying to know that the contributions from donors will go towards further strengthening SGA’s high-performance and junior development programmes, providing the athletes with the resources and training to reach their full potential.

“These include valuable opportunities such as overseas competitions and training camps to hone their skills. We are also glad that the fund-raising event was a success and that all donors and guests enjoyed themselves.”

Chua said the fund-raising event was made possible with the unwavering support from SGA Partners Lexus, FootJoy, EFG and OneRHT Foundation.

Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Inchcape Greater China and Singapore, representatives of Lexus since 1992, said: “It was our pleasure to be part of the Fund-raising Golf Event to help raise funds through the One Team Singapore Fund. We are committed to nurturing young golf talent on their golf journey and personal excellence both on and off the course.

“Lexus has always been an advocate of golf which reflects Lexus’s core values, and it connects us with our Lexus customers who value the dedication to craft and excellence.”
