Bangkok, Thailand: Almost a month after staging the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok, accolades are still coming the way of Stonehill.
With a purse of US$25 million on offer, the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok was the richest golf tournament ever held on Asian soil. The 48-strong field included 12 Major champions and four former world number ones.
It was the first time that the newly-minted Stonehill venue had been exposed to the world with the Kyle Phillips-designed course receiving rave reviews.
Working behind the scenes supporting Darren Moore, Stonehill’s Director of Agronomy, to ensure the success of the event were a host of individuals from Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) member companies.
Among them were Gavin Reid (BRG Group), Martin Moore (Flagstick Golf Course Construction Management), Gareth Knight (Toro), Brad Burgess, Evan Du Plessis, Ben Southall and technicians from Sports Turf Solutions, James Gordon (Profile Products), Jeffrey Eshuis (Centaur Asia Pacific), along with Ed Harris and Mark Kolentsis and a team of technicians from Jebsen & Jessen.
Reid, Director of Construction and Agronomy with BRG Group, Vietnam’s largest Golf Developer, said: “Joining the LIV event agronomy team with BRG support was a wonderful experience.
“Under the meticulous eye of Darren Moore, Stonehill’s Director of Agronomy, my fellow Aussie and great friend, the Stonehill course was presented in world-class condition.
“What the team at Stonehill produced was inspiring. From opening the course in August after three years of Covid-interrupted construction to hosting the LIV event in October was a Herculean effort.
“It was also an example of what great course design, construction standards, agronomy planning, ownership commitment and industry collective support can achieve.
“Stonehill and LIV set a standard for us to aspire to and will benefit all Asian golf though the exposure created and the truly world class venue provided.”
Moore, President of Flagstick, a Full Business Member of the AGIF, added: “You couldn’t have wished for a more fitting venue for such a huge tournament.
“Kyle created a spectacular design. He took a typical flat piece of Bangkok land and turned it into a gently rolling site. If you didn’t know, you would have thought: ‘Wow! What a great piece of natural rolling property on which to build a golf course’.
“For all of us who were involved with this very special project it was a fabulous feeling to witness so many of the world’s finest golfers teeing-off in the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok. It was a truly memorable week,” said Moore.
