Singapore: Laguna National Golf Resort Club has been commended for its continuing support of junior golfing development.
For the third year in succession, the award-winning Singapore club’s Masters Course will play host to many of the region’s most promising young players in the Singapore Junior Masters.
Headlined by Thai prodigy Ratchanon ‘TK’ Chantananuwat and Shannon Tan, the first Singaporean female to break into the top-100 in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), the 54-hole tournament will take place from November 28-30.
TK wrote his name into golf’s record books in April when, aged 15, he won the Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup, becoming the youngest player to ever win on a major professional Tour. He’s currently ranked 11th in the WAGR.
Two-time defending champion Tan, currently on an NCAA scholarship at Texas Tech University, will be joined in the starting line-up by fellow-Singaporean Brandon Han, a recent winner on the newly formed GENZ Golf Tour in Thailand.
The Singapore Junior Masters, which was founded by Lyn Yeo, is also welcoming a new title sponsor in Trust Golf, part of Thai-based technology developer TCT Corporation.
“With the addition of Trust Golf as a sponsor for the Singapore Junior Masters, we have on board another great partner with a common goal and passion for growing the game of golf in the region,” said Kevin Kwee, Executive Director at Laguna National, a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
“The interest in the Singapore Junior Masters has really taken off and this is the first time we have more foreign top amateurs participating in this event,” he added.
Yeo acknowledged the long-term commitment that has been offered by Laguna National, which supported the event during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yeo said: “I cannot commend enough Laguna National’s support of the Singapore Junior Masters and junior development as a whole in Singapore. Kevin and his team have unconditionally provided the resources necessary to make this into an event that is widely recognised around the region.”
In recent years, Trust Golf has assumed a high-profile role in growing the game with its sponsorship of the TrustGolf Women’s Scottish Open, the TrustGolf Asian Mixed Series, jointly staged by the Asian Tour and Ladies European Tour (LET), and the Trust Golf Links Series, part of the LET’s Access Series. The TrustGolf Singapore Junior Masters Driven by CarTimes Group marks the company’s first foray into international junior tournaments.
Yeo said: “We are proud to welcome TrustGolf as our new title sponsor as the Singapore Junior Masters takes the next leap developing into a world-class junior golf event.
“Despite the challenges of putting together the first international junior golf event in Singapore, we were able to produce two highly competitive tournaments to aid in the development of the junior golfers who participated. Now, with TrustGolf, we are primed to become even bigger and better.”
Led by Dr Prin Singhanart, Trust Golf believes in developing homegrown talent through the support of key events around the world, a vision that is shared by Yeo.
“Lyn Yeo is our trusted partner in Singapore. The Singapore Junior Masters and her series of tournaments throughout the year creates the pathway for young and elite players to pursue their dreams. Trust Golf is proud to be this year’s title sponsor, helping to inspire the next generation of champions in this region,” said Dr Prin.
