Hong Kong: The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club hosted the Hong Kong Golf Association’s (HKGA) latest grow-the-game initiative, a golfing clinic for 100 female beginners.
Conducted by HKGA coaches, the day camp covered a comprehensive range of topics, from golfing etiquette to the short game, and comprised a lecture with on-course practice.
Following the lecture session, participants ventured onto the course where they were given hints on chipping and putting.
HKGA President Paul Tse said: “Local female golfers had outstanding performances at the Tokyo Olympics and (China) National Games, thus inspiring more women of all ages to pursue this enjoyable outdoor sport.
“The participants in our latest event were able to experience the fun of playing golf at an international tournament venue like The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club, which is a key training venue for active China LPGA Tour player Isabella Leung.
“Being able to practise on such scenic, beautiful greens no doubt helped attract their interest in further pursuing the sport.”
Jane Lo, Chair of the HKGA’s Ladies Committee, added: “The HKGA junior team has nurtured many outstanding female golfers, some of whom aspire to become international professional players. At the same time, the HKGA has accorded efforts to boost golf’s popularity among women of different ages and enable more women to enjoy the sport.
“The success of our second Ladies Golf Clinic indicates there is still a lot of room for golf development in Hong Kong.”
To ensure the health and safety of participants, coaches and players at the clinic were required to complete health declaration forms, wear masks and use the ‘LeaveHomeSafe’ mobile app.
The HKGA provided each participant with her own set of clubs – including sand wedge, putter and irons – to minimise the chance of cross-infection.
The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club is a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
