Doha, Qatar: Education City Golf Club has underscored its commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle among females by participating in this week’s Women’s Golf Day (WGD).
WGD is aimed at introducing new female participants to golf and celebrating existing players by joining them together, irrespective of race, religion, language, ethnicity or location.
“We decided to be a part of this global event because we are promoting a healthy and sporty lifestyle among women and girls in Qatar. Golf is an excellent sport for losing weight and keeping fit. Golf also supports mental health and helps fight depression,” said Gordana Popovic Vincic, a female golfer who is Sales and Marketing Manager at Education City Golf Club, a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
WGD featured a virtual golf day on June 2 with Education City broadcasting an on-line discussion with Catriona Mathew, Europe’s Solheim Cup Captain in 2019 and 2021, and Michael Braidwood, General Manager at Education City Golf Club.
The online discussion partnered with In the Game and discussed relevant topics about women’s golf and health featuring female golfers in the community of Qatar.
One of Education City Golf Club’s missions is to grow the game of golf and the female sector is one of the most untapped. The club is well equipped to introduce people to golf with expansive training facilities which offer a step-by-step pathway into the game.
The Women in Golf Charter was launched last year by The R&A, golf’s governing body, to encourage golfing governing bodies and clubs to pledge to support this important initiative. This aligns directly with Education City Golf Club’s mission and will really help drive participation.
The second part of the Women’s Golf Day will be a physical golf event in September designed to engage lady golfers and potential lady golfers at the course.
“Women’s Golf Day is unique. There is nothing like it in sports, a one-day sporting and community celebration event that unites women through golf across the globe for 24 hours straight. It transcends race, religion, language and geography. Education City Golf Club is proud of its relaxed and welcoming culture and its mantra that anyone can try golf. We’re delighted to be part of the Women’s Golf Day,” said a club spokesperson.
