San Diego, United States: John Deere Golf crowned Penn State University as the winner of the 2019 GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl during the Closing Ceremony of the Golf Industry Show.
As the winner, Penn State University received a travelling trophy, US$4,000 first-place prize and the opportunity to volunteer at next month’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
As a part of the 2019 GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl, the winning team from Penn State University competed against 63 student teams representing 30 colleges and universities from across North America.
The competition graded teams on overall industry knowledge and problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations, mirroring what superintendents often face daily. This year a total of US$10,000 in cash prizes were awarded to the top 10 teams.
“It’s amazing to witness the energy and excitement these students bring to the competition. The future of the industry is in their hands, so it’s critical to support their education and preparation,” said Manny Gan, Global Director of Golf, John Deere, an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
“The students from Penn State University showcased the skills and passion that any future superintendent must possess. We are excited to see where their careers take them,” added Gan.
