Angkor Golf Resort’s Alan Martin congratulates Yan Liu on her success.
Siem Reap, Cambodia: Angkor Golf Resort’s reputation as one of the region’s outstanding golfing facilities was enhanced with the staging of the Ladies European Tour’s new Asian Pre-Qualifying tournament for the Lalla Aicha Tour School.
Echoing the sentiments of many of her fellow-competitors,
Jenny Lee of the United States said: “The golf course and facilities, the city and the people are amazing! This place is awesome – totally unexpected!”
Golfers from six different countries competed over 72 holes on the award-winning Faldo Design course.
Six players progressed to the Final Stage of Qualifying in Morocco, led by China’s
Yan Liu, who claimed first place at Angkor Golf Resort, a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
Alan Martin, Angkor Golf Resort’s Head Professional, said: “It was a great privilege for us to bring the LET to Angkor Golf Resort and very rewarding to hear the many positive comments from the players.
“We know we have a great golf course and the facilities to match, but it is always good to put it to the test at the highest level, hosting a successful professional event.
“We look forward to growing the event next year and hopefully this will help raise the profile of Angkor Golf Resort and golf in Cambodia to the golfing enthusiasts around the region and the world.”
Highlighted by a brilliant third round of nine-under-par 63 – a ladies’ professional course record – Yan proved too strong for her rivals.
Her 72-hole aggregate of 20-under 268 was no fewer than 14 shots in front of her closest challenger.
