Phuket, Thailand: Laguna Golf Phuket, a Golf Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation, is stepping up its commitment to junior golfers.
Named Thailand’s Best Golf Course at the 2015 World Golf Awards, Laguna Golf Phuket has initiated a junior golf membership, open to golf enthusiasts under the age of 18.
As well as having access to the golf course and clubhouse, junior members also receive attractive privileges at hotels, restaurants and spas in the Laguna Phuket integrated resort destination along with reciprocal playing rights at over 200 top golf courses worldwide
In its efforts to inspire and develop youth players, junior memberships have been awarded to 15-year-old Kittiphong Phaithuncharoensuk and 16-year-old Chanisara Kruakaew, the overall boys’ and girls’ winners at the second Laguna Phuket Junior Golf Tournament.
Held in partnership with the British International School Phuket, the event saw Kittiphong upstage his rivals with a scintillating two-under-par 69.
Paul Wilson, Laguna Phuket’s Director of Golf, said the event was created to nurture talented junior golfers from the Southern region of Thailand.
He said: “Having successfully hosted our first Laguna Phuket Junior Golf Tournament last June, it’s been fantastic to see so many young golfers continuing to play and practice at our golf course to improve their game.
“Our event provides a real tournament experience for junior golfers aged from six to 18. Creating a ‘Tour Event’ with divisional prizes and trophies, topped with goodie bags, on-course branding and F&B stations, the juniors have a platform to gain valuable experience under tournament conditions and make new friends coming from other schools.

Oliver Bates, Head Coach at the British International School Phuket’s recently launched golf centre, said: “We are privileged to partner with Laguna Golf Phuket to provide talented juniors the opportunity to attain higher levels of the sport and we expect to see it grow strongly in years to come.”
