Beaverton, United States: Nike Golf has introduced a range of new polo designs while the classic Nike Flyknit Chukka makes its first appearance on the golf course.
The new polo designs boast modern cuts and collars that evidence an evolution in golf attire by athletes to select the look and feel best suited to their personal needs.
Collars come in the distinct designs: blade, roll and traditional while fit options range from standard – for a relaxed, comfortable fit – to modern slim, which offers maximum mobility and modern style.
As Rory McIlroy explains: “I wanted a polo I didn’t have to think about. Something that fit so well I could put it on at the beginning of a round and not touch it until after my last putt.
“The Nike MM Fly Blade Polo met this ask with lightweight, Dri-FIT fabric and ergonomic seams for a full range of motion. The new blade collar design provides comfort with a minimal rib design and a refined, modern look.
“When they finally let me try on their first prototype, I thought: ‘This is it!’ I didn’t want to give it back.”
The collection also features the Nike MM Fly Roll Polo and the MM Fly Framing Commander Polo.
In addition to the polos, Nike Golf has introduced Hyperwarm tights to tackle the course, providing a locked-in feel and disruptive new aesthetic.
“Tights are good for recovery,” Brooks Koepka said. “We train so hard on and off the golf course that I think it would help us stay on the Tour for a little longer by keeping our bodies fresh for years down the road.”
Designed to enhance movement with a compression feel, regulate body temperature and provide an extra layer of warmth, the Nike tights are made with a high-stretch Dri-FIT fabric that helps keep athletes dry.
As Nike Golf athlete Scott Pinckney adds, they also tap into the psychological aspect of the sport.
“I absolutely love wearing the tights when I practice and workout,” said Pinckney. “I feel more athletic and my legs always feel better after I practice when I wear them.”
Also making waves is the Nike Flyknit Chukka, originally created in 2013, as part of the HTM line – an on-going collaboration between Nike Inc CEO and designer Mark Parker, Nike design legend Tinker Hatfield and style ambassador Hiroshi Fujiwara.
A year later, the shoe cemented its sporting legacy on the medal stands of Sochi. Its appearance in golf, a first for Flyknit, brings a fresh aesthetic to the fairway and a sustainable twist to the sport.
A revolutionary manufacturing method, Flyknit enables designers to micro-engineer every stitch of the Chukka to create a featherweight, form-fitting one-piece upper while simultaneously reducing manufacturing waste and materials. The upper is further enhanced by Nike Flywire technology for support and lockdown.
To bring the silhouette in line with golf needs, a golf-specific Nike Free-inspired sole unit, with superior traction elements in the toe and heel, is added. And the upper is also skinned with a thin TPU layer for water resistance against light rain and morning dew.
