Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Troon and a number of its venues in the UAE enjoyed a fruitful haul at the Middle East Golf Awards (MEGA), collecting some of the most decorated accolades.
The Middle East has long been a spearhead for Troon, an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
Operating at 25 locations in 13 countries, Troon says its Middle East and Asia Pacific division ‘typifies the company’s ability to deliver exceptional golf experiences and surpass the expectations of its guests, impressing golf’s opinion-formers to collect their most noteworthy accolades’.
At the awards, The Els Club Dubai was a headline winner, featuring in no less than four categories, collecting the accolade of ‘Golf Course Maintenance Team of the Year’.
The manicured playing surfaces at The Els Club Dubai are a tribute to the investment by the owners, Dubai Sports City, and Ernie Els Design, a Full Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
Further recognition came inside the venue’s Spanish Colonial-styled clubhouse as The Big Easy Bar & Grill was named ‘Best Food & Beverage Outlet of the Year’.
Supplementary recognition came in the form of the ‘Golf CSR Initiative of the Year’ honour for its Els for Autism tournament and the Butch Harmon School of Golf took home the ‘Academy of the Year’ prize.
There was also success for the TDIC-owned Abu Dhabi Golf Club which picked up the award for the ‘Best Golf Course Above 500 AED of the Year’. The Peter Harradine-designed course also received recognition for its 2015 hosting of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, as it collected the ‘Best Professional Golf Event’ for the fans’ experience.
Decided and supervised by an expert collective of local industry captains, a total of 16 categories were presented at a ceremony and cocktail reception in Dubai. The MEGAs are owned and organised by Sport360 in association with the region’s golf bodies and sports councils, including Dubai Sports Council and Emirates Golf Federation amongst others.
