Singapore: The Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) has received the 2026 Country Leadership Award – Golf Club for Singapore by the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF), recognising the club’s achievements in golf development, sustainability, innovation and club management.
SICC General Manager, Ian Roberts, accepted the accolade at the AGIF Awards Gala Dinner at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The AGIF Awards celebrate outstanding leadership, innovation and contributions to the advancement of golf across Asia.
With only one golf club recognised per country, the Country Leadership Award evaluates excellence across five key areas: hosting golf events, sustainability, growing the game, innovation in club management and investment in facilities.
Roberts said: “This recognition is a tremendous honour for SICC and a testament to the collective dedication of our general committee, members and staff.
“It reflects our commitment to continually raising standards, from delivering championship golf experiences and investing in our facilities to advancing sustainability and developing the next generation of golfers. While we are proud of our heritage, our focus remains firmly on the future.”
With 63 holes across three championship golf courses, SICC offers Singapore’s largest collection of golf holes under a single club. Its standing as a premier tournament venue was reinforced in November 2025 when it hosted the Moutai Singapore Open, bringing the national championship back to the club where the inaugural tournament was held in 1961.
SICC has also continued to invest in its golfing infrastructure, most notably with the reopening of The Island Course in September 2025 following an extensive redevelopment designed by Nelson & Haworth. The project combined championship-standard course enhancements with advanced irrigation, drainage and environmental conservation features.
Alongside hosting major tournaments, SICC’s commitment to developing the next generation of golfers is reflected in its Junior Invitational Golf Championship, an established fixture on the regional junior golf calendar. The tournament marked its 32nd edition in 2026, bringing together emerging talent from across Asia under the title sponsorship of Charles Schwab.
Environmental stewardship is another key pillar of SICC’s operations, with sustainability initiatives spanning energy efficiency, water conservation, bio-diversity and golf course maintenance.
Since its FY2023/2024 baseline, SICC has reduced Scope 2 carbon emissions by 6.9%, supported by investments in solar energy, battery energy storage and energy-efficient operations. The club has also introduced smart irrigation systems, electric course maintenance equipment and bio-diversity conservation measures, including wildlife corridors and native tree propagation.
SICC continues to advance sustainable golf course management with its Bukit Course and The New Course both GEO-certified, while the recently redeveloped The Island Course is undergoing recertification.
These efforts form part of the club’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes a commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

During the AGIF Annual International Summit at the Kuala Lumpur venue, Roberts spoke as a panellist.
The session – Best Practices: Inside the Plans of Asia’s Leading Golf Clubs – explored the challenges and opportunities facing golf clubs, including evolving member expectations, resource management and strategies for long-term sustainability.
Roberts said: “Golf clubs today must balance the traditions that define them with the need to evolve.
“This recognition reinforces our commitment to innovation, responsible development and contributing to the continued growth of golf in Singapore and across Asia.”
AGIF President Chris Gray said: “SICC demonstrates how a golf club can successfully combine a rich heritage with progressive management and a commitment to sustainability. Its achievements across the five award criteria reflect a well-rounded approach to excellence and set a strong example for clubs across the region.”
