
Singapore: Shoumo Mitra has joined Syngenta as Head of Marketing, Turf & Landscape, AMEA (Africa, Middle East, Asia) & JANZ (Japan, Australia, New Zealand), effective September 1, 2026.
In this role, Mitra is responsible for managing the Turf & Landscape business across AMEA and JANZ. He is based in Singapore.
Mitra joined Syngenta in 2008 as Global Technical Manager for Turf, based in Basel, following a long academic career as a Professor at California State University, Pomona, US where he specialised in teaching and research.
He relocated to Singapore in 2010 as Head of Technical Services for Lawn & Garden, and in 2013 moved into a marketing role as Head of Ornamentals, Turf & Landscape, APAC. He subsequently transitioned from L&G into the R&D organisation as ASEAN Head of R&D, before joining ADAMA as APAC Head of Regulatory and Development.
In June 2020, Mitra joined Corteva, where he held several roles across R&D and marketing until July 2026, most recently as APAC Senior Director of Crop Health R&D and APAC Regional Marketing Director, overseeing marketing efforts across seeds and crop protection.
Mitra holds an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and has been actively involved in the golf industry for more than 20 years, including serving as a Board member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) from 2012 to 2017.
He has received numerous honours throughout his career, including the ‘Outstanding Young Scientist’ award from the American Chemical Society (ACS) Agrochemicals Division, the Excellence in Research Award from Gamma Sigma Delta (the honour society of Agriculture), and the ‘Industry Innovation’ award from the European Society of Agricultural Engineers.
In his new role, Mitra is dedicated to supporting turf and landscape professionals across the region. With extensive experience in turf science, R&D, marketing, and the golf industry, he will strengthen Syngenta’s partnerships with golf course superintendents, turf and landscape managers, distributors, and industry partners.
Mitra will focus on understanding evolving customer needs, delivering relevant innovations and practical solutions, and promoting responsible, sustainable management of high-quality turf and landscapes. He looks forward to collaborating closely with customers and stakeholders to advance the turf and landscape industry across the region.
