Singapore: Sembawang Country Club has launched its redesigned layout following a carefully planned course upgrade led by Green Dynasty Pte Ltd, the club’s appointed Project Manager.

Located in northern Singapore within the Sembawang Air Force Base, the club engaged Green Dynasty, a long-standing Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) member, to work with its development team and committee to identify the best ways to address budget constraints, safety requirements, sustainability pressures, and overall course conditioning.

With Golfplan appointed as lead architect, the redevelopment included reversing several holes, refurbishing the irrigation system with Rain Bird and upgrading greens, tees, and bunkers using Capillary Flow and Loksand technology supplied by Centaur Asia Pacific.

The project also introduced Primo Zoysia greens and Stadium Zoysia across all tees, fairways, and roughs, supplied by Sports Turf Solutions (STS).

Green Dynasty President Director Owen Hester commended the club for investing time in pre-planning and enabling a structure that included owner-supplied direct purchasing and the appointment of suitable contractors, including Tehc International as the main golf contractor, with irrigation works undertaken by ATIG.

The rebuild was completed on schedule, on budget while keeping nine holes open for play at all times. Through strong communication between the redevelopment committee, Green Dynasty, and Golfplan, the new course now offers a layout that suits club members of all skill levels. It also enables the club to reduce water consumption, use technology to manage water more efficiently, and provide a superior playing surface that is easier to maintain.

Hester outlined with many clubs in Asia needing significant upgrading, Sembawang can be a great model that can show value for money can be obtained from a budget, quality playing surfaces can be achieved and sustainability to meet current and future restrictions can be implemented ensuring long-term consistency for the future of a club.
