Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) member companies are playing an active role in the renovation of the East Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).
KLGCC General Manager and AGIF Vice President Adam Calver appointed Green Dynasty Pte Ltd to lead construction, with AGIF Board member Owen Hester, President Director of Green Dynasty, overseeing the successful delivery of the Sir Nick Faldo design.
Working to a tight renovation schedule, Green Dynasty carried out an intensive pre-construction and tender process that incorporated the latest materials and sustainable products available in the Asia market. These included CapillaryFlow, EcoBunker and LOKSAND, supplied by AGIF member Centaur Asia Pacific, to achieve the distinctive bunker aesthetic envisioned by Faldo Design.
Grassing will use Lynkz Zoysia on the greens and surrounds, while Stadium Zoysia, supplied by AGIF member Sports Turf Solutions (STS) from its Malaysia ITGAP-certified nursery, will be used on fairways, tees and roughs.
Profile Porous Ceramics (PPC), an inorganic, kiln-fired ceramic soil amendment, is being used to optimise sand-based root zones at the venue while irrigation upgrades will use Toro equipment supplied by AGIF member Jebsen & Jebsen.

With KLGCC placing a strong emphasis on quality control, AGIF member Tech International Pte Ltd was appointed as the contractor and mobilised a professional team with site-specific equipment to carry out the work. Green Dynasty also implemented an ‘owner supplied materials’ system that enabled the club to purchase materials directly, helping keep the project within budget while giving the club greater flexibility to achieve its goals.
Despite periods of exceptionally heavy rain, Hester said the team’s collaborative approach has kept work progressing smoothly with the first nine holes remaining on schedule to open in October and the second nine set for a December unveiling. The course is anticipated to be fully opened in March 2027.
Hester added that careful planning during design and pre-construction, combined with the leadership of Calver and Mohd Nizam Othman, one of Asia’s most decorated golf course superintendents, and close collaboration with Faldo Design and Green Dynasty, has created a long-term, sustainable model for successful course renovation in Asia.
Chris Gray, President of the AGIF, said: “No fewer than 11 AGIF member companies are involved in this exciting project. This showcases how being a member of the AGIF can open networking opportunities that lead to collaboration.
“We look forward to hearing more about the East Course renovation during an exclusive presentation of the participating parties at the Asian Golf Industry Federation International Summit at the Sime Darby Convention Centre from October 27-29.”
