Singapore: Sentosa Golf Club has reinforced its status as one of Asia’s premier championship venues after successfully hosting three global tournaments across an eight-week period – the HSBC Women’s World Championship, Aramco LIV Golf Singapore, and the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times.
The championship run saw 273 players compete across its two premier courses, The Serapong and The Tanjong, with representatives from 37 countries ensuring Singapore remained firmly in the global championship golf spotlight.
Staged over an intensive operational window, the sequence demonstrated Sentosa’s ability to deliver three back-to-back international tournaments to globally recognised championship standards spanning course performance, sustainability delivery and agronomy excellence.
Andrew Johnston, General Manager and Director of Agronomy at Sentosa Golf Club, said: “When you’re hosting three championships in a short window, it’s a full-team effort across agronomy and operations to keep standards where they need to be. ‘Tournament Ready 365’ is our mindset, and it’s about delivering tournament-ready conditions day in, day out, for the players and everyone on site.”
Across the season, Sentosa’s agronomy team comprised of 76 devoted team members, who delivered exceptional standards across both The Serapong and The Tanjong. Their efforts were further strengthened by the support of 57 additional agronomy volunteers, who generously contributed their time and expertise throughout the tournament period: five for the HSBC Women’s World Championship, 31 for LIV Golf Singapore, and 21 for the Singapore Open.
The scale and master planning of the preparation behind these events was immense. Across both courses, the team completed more than 10,500 mowing hours, covering greens, tees, fairways, approaches, rough and walkways. This intensive mowing programme, combined with daily rolling and highly specialised surface maintenance, was essential in delivering the speed, and more importantly consistency followed by the playing and television presentation expected at the highest level of professional golf.
In total, 255 hectares of playing surfaces across The Serapong and The Tanjong were meticulously maintained, with every area receiving its own tailored agronomic programme. Multiple daily maintenance cycles ensured exceptional playing conditions throughout each tournament week were maintained.
Greens clipping yields measured 11.3 inches during the HSBC Women’s World Championship on The Tanjong, 32.9 inches during LIV Golf Singapore on The Serapong; and 11.7 inches during the Singapore Open week. These precise maintenance practices promoted dense, healthy turf and the smooth, consistent ball roll demanded for championship play.
Sustainability also remained a key priority throughout the season. The team utilised more than 37.9 million gallons (143.5 million litres) of recycled irrigation water across both courses, captured from rainwater only. No purchasing of water of any kind was required, reinforcing Sentosa Golf Club’s commitment to responsible and sustainable course management, while maintaining elite tournament standards.
The busy run of elite tournaments opened with the HSBC Women’s World Championship, staged at the club for the 13th time, as the world’s leading women took on The Tanjong. Headlined by world number one Jeeno Thitikul, 2025 Women’s PGA Championship winner Minjee Lee and home favourite Shannon Tan, the week underlined Sentosa’s standing on the global calendar, with Australian Hannah Green going on to lift the title.
Just two weeks later, the spotlight shifted to The Serapong for Aramco LIV Golf Singapore, where Bryson DeChambeau claimed victory in a dramatic play-off over Richard T. Lee. The stretch then closed with the Singapore Open, where Korean Ham Jeong-woo claimed his maiden International Series title on The Serapong, rounding out a fast-paced season of top-tier competition at one venue.
Beyond hosting championship golf, Sentosa Golf Club’s latest season was marked by a significant sustainability milestone. The venue was re-awarded GEO Certified status by the GEO Foundation, one of the most respected international environmental certifications in golf.
