Singapore: The Singapore Golf Association (SGA) has announced the appointment of Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Secretary General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), as its Patron, marking a significant milestone in the SGA’s efforts to strengthen and grow the sport in Singapore.

As Patron, Tan will lend his support to the SGA’s mission of developing golf across all levels, from community participation to high-performance excellence. His appointment reflects a shared commitment to advancing the sport’s accessibility, inclusivity and long-term sustainability of golf’s eco-system in Singapore.

Tan will also support the objectives of the SGA and provide guidance where appropriate as he champions the development of the sport. His appointment comes at a time of growing momentum for golf in Singapore, with increased participation, the successful staging of world-class events, and encouraging progress by Singaporean players on the international stage.

Tan said: “I am honoured to be appointed Patron of the SGA. As a sport, golf embodies the important values of discipline, integrity, and resilience. I look forward to supporting SGA as they work to make golf more accessible, nurture talents, and contribute to Singapore’s success in the sport.”

Tan Chong Huat, President of the SGA, said: “We are deeply honoured to welcome Senior Minister of State Desmond Tan as the Patron of the SGA. His support comes at an important time for the sport, as we continue to strengthen our eco-system and expand opportunities for golfers of all ages and abilities.

“We believe his leadership and guidance will be invaluable as we take Singapore golf forward. The SGA remains committed to building a vibrant and inclusive golfing eco-system while continuing to elevate Singapore’s presence on the global stage.”
