Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Following on from staging the first-ever Legends Tour event in Cambodia, Vattanac Golf Resort will add to its legacy this week.

With two rounds of 66, Scotsman David Drysdale ended a 19-year wait for a victory by emerging triumphant in the Vattanac Legends Championship on the club’s East Course last week.

Drysdale and his fellow Legends Tour players now switch to the West Course for the Vattanac Legends Championship – Legacy Edition (November 26-28).

Neak Oknha Sam Ang Vattanac, Executive Director of Vattanac Group, said: “It is an honour to welcome the Legends Tour to Cambodia for the first time. The Vattanac Legends Championship – Legacy Edition will showcase not only our world-class golf facilities but also the pride, resilience, and hospitality of the Cambodian people.

“By bringing Ryder Cup captains and Major winners to Phnom Penh, we are opening a new chapter for Cambodian sport and tourism. This tournament will inspire our youth, unite Cambodians in pride, strengthen international friendships, and position Cambodia as a destination for world-class golf events and beyond.”

Phil Harrison, Legends Tour CEO, said: “With Cambodia rapidly emerging as a destination for golf tourism, the recent opening of the Techo International Airport and the calibre of world-class partners already committed to the event further underline its significance.

“Set against the backdrop of the stunning Nick Faldo-designed course at Vattanac Golf Resort, this second tournament promises to be another standout occasion on the Legends Tour calendar.”

Designed by six-time Major winner Faldo, Vattanac Golf Resort, managed by Troon Golf, features two award-winning courses that seamlessly blend world-class design with Khmer cultural heritage.

“Hosting the Legends Tour reflects Vattanac Group’s mission to celebrate Cambodia’s heritage, elevate national pride, and build the country’s future through sport, hospitality, and global partnerships,” said a Vattanac Golf Resort spokesperson.

For Drysdale, Vattanac will always hold a special place in his heart after ending a barren run that spanned 576 DP World Tour and 13 Legends Tour events.

In the aftermath of his one-stroke win from England’s Peter Baker and Phillip Archer, Drysdale said: “Vattanac Legends Championship winner sounds fantastic. It’s been a long time coming, but it feels amazing. I’m delighted to get it done. I felt pretty calm and was just trying to stay focused and hit one good shot after another.

“It means the world to me. I had a couple of chances to win, had a couple where guys robbed me, if you like. This will go a long way to make up for that.”
