Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Award-winning Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) Facility Member Vattanac Golf Resort will take centre stage this week when it hosts the inaugural Vattanac Legends Championship.

Less than a month after receiving the ‘Distinguished Contribution to Growing the Game’ accolade at the AGIF Awards 2025, the Phnom Penh venue is welcoming the Legends Tour to Cambodia for the first time.

With two championship courses designed by Sir Nick Faldo, world-class facilities, and a culture of five-star service, Vattanac Golf Resort has quickly established itself as one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent golfing getaways.

Neak Oknha Sam Ang Vattanac, Executive Director of Vattanac Group, said: “This award is a proud moment for Cambodia and everyone at Vattanac Golf Resort. It celebrates our team’s dedication and passion for elevating golf in the Kingdom. Being chosen as the host venue for the Legends Tour further reinforces our position as a world-class golf destination, trusted by global organisations to deliver excellence in every detail, from course design and hospitality to event management.

“At Vattanac Group, we are committed to building experiences that showcase the beauty, culture, and potential of Cambodia. This recognition is not only for our resort, but for the entire nation as we continue to promote Cambodia as a premier golfing destination in Asia.”

Damian McHugh, Vattanac Golf Resort’s General Manager, who accepted the AGIF award at the Kuala Lumpur ceremony, added: “We are deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Asian Golf Industry Federation. It reflects the tireless effort and passion of our entire team. Over the past few years, we’ve worked hard to grow the game at every level, from youth development and community programmes to hosting major international tournaments like the Legends Tour.

“The Legends Tour’s decision to compete at Vattanac Golf Resort speaks volumes about our world-class standards and the unique playing experience our courses offer. The combination of championship design, cultural inspiration, and Troon-managed excellence makes us unlike any other golf course in Cambodia.

“This award motivates us to continue setting benchmarks for golf excellence and sustainability, both in Cambodia and across Asia.”

DJ Flanders, Executive Vice President, Troon International division, said: “I am very proud of the team at Vattanac Golf Resort for receiving the Distinguished Contribution to Growing the Game award from the Asian Golf Industry Federation. This is well deserved.

“One thing I enjoy most in my role with Troon is working alongside ownership groups in our developing golf markets. We get to support the growth of the game, while helping create real careers in hospitality and new opportunities for people in the community. That is meaningful work. Congratulations to everyone at Vattanac Golf Resort.”
