Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) has successfully introduced its Golf in School programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Desa, marking another milestone in Malaysia’s Community Golf Programme.

A total of 100 students from Standard 4, 5 and 6 participated in the programme, which aims to introduce golf as part of co-curricular activities in schools.

Although initially planned for more participants, Standard 6 students were unable to join due to on-going examinations.

The programme was officially launched by Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, President of the MGA, in a ceremony that saw enthusiastic support from teachers, students, and invited guests.

Four experienced instructors conducted the fundamental lessons on the basics of golf:

Nur Batrisyia Ghani, National Team Player
Muhammad Alir Fisthoaniq bin Eusof, Community Golf Instructor
Cikgu Adib, Community Golf Instructor
Shairul Erwin, National Tutor of the Community Golf Instructor (CGI)

These instructors guided the students through fun and engaging sessions designed to build early interest and foundational golf skills.

Speaking at the launch, Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor said: “The Golf in School programme is part of our long-term vision to make golf more accessible to all Malaysians, starting from the grass-roots.

“By introducing golf as a co-curricular activity, we are not only teaching the game but also instilling values such as discipline, focus, and sportsmanship. We hope this programme will inspire more young talents to pick up golf and grow with the sport.”

The programme schedule included introductory briefings, outdoor sessions with the students, and the presentation of souvenirs to mark the occasion.

The MGA said the Golf in School initiative at SK Taman Desa is the first step towards expanding golf’s reach into schools nationwide, ensuring that golf becomes a sport that lives up to its motto: ‘Everyone Can Golf’.

The MGA is the governing body for golf in Malaysia, dedicated to promoting, regulating, and advancing the sport at all levels. Through initiatives like the National Junior Development Programme, the MGA strives to nurture homegrown talent and elevate Malaysia’s presence on the global golf stage.
