Hong Kong SAR, China: Plover Cove Golf Club (PCGC), the visionary development set to transform Hong Kong’s sports and leisure offering, has underscored its commitment to sustainable golf course management, operational excellence and industry best practice for the region by becoming a member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF).
Through the membership with Asia’s leading organisation for the advancement of the golf industry, PCGC is aligning with a strong network of premium golf clubs in the region and sharing in market-wide progress in pivotal areas such as sustainable agronomy and professional development.
Management of PCGC participated in last month’s AGIF-organised Club and Turf Management Conference in Thailand, where over 70 delegates from across Asia discussed operational challenges around the growing influence of technology, sustainability, and golf tourism.
PCGC’s perspective was heard during the conference, with General Manager Dean Nelson offering his invaluable contribution in a compelling discussion on sustainable championship agronomy and operational excellence, where he gave his views on talent development and retention.
In the session, Nelson shared his professional insights with industry experts including Chris Gray, President of the AGIF and Head of Sustainable Golf – Asia-Pacific for The R&A, and representatives from elite-level Thai clubs such as Stonehill and Robinswood.
During the discussion, Nelson outlined the club’s commitment to the cultivation of a workforce culture that will deliver consistent world-class hospitality, ready for launch in 2027.
Nelson said: “Joining the Asian Golf Industry Federation is an important step for Plover Cove Golf Club as it gives us an invaluable platform to benchmark against leading regional facilities and also to co-operate with them on the continued development and delivery of elite-level golf in Hong Kong and the wider region. This is key as we all look to strengthen our offerings, to future-proof the industry moving forward.
“AGIF membership will help in many different ways, from enhancing turf management at our course to improving efficiencies across our offering and providing expertise on tournament preparation and readiness. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with the AGIF and its members as we continue our preparations for launch in 2027, and well beyond.”
The PCGC project is being developed in collaboration with internationally renowned course architects Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, agronomy and sustainability consultants Turfgrass, and Flagstick Golf Course Construction Management.
The landmark project, set for completion in summer 2027, will transform up to 53 hectares of restored landfill into a championship course measuring over 6,600 yards, complete with a dynamic clubhouse offering a full suite of luxury lifestyle facilities, at a total investment up to HK$4.5 billion.
The destination is set to elevate Hong Kong’s sports and leisure offering while transforming the Tai Po area in the New Territories, generating significant economic growth through a diverse offering of up to 350 jobs.
AGIF President Gray said: “We’re pleased to welcome Plover Cove Golf Club as a Facility Member of the Federation and look forward to forging strong links with them in the coming years.”
