Seoul, Korea: Park Sung-hyun, one of Korea’s most celebrated golfers, will headline the field at Golf Saudi’s Aramco Korea Championship.
The former world number one and two-time Major champion will be making her debut at a Golf Saudi event, returning to home soil to compete in front of passionate Korean fans in what promises to be one of the standout moments of the Ladies European Tour (LET) season.
“It’s always an honour to play at home, and to do so in a global event like this is even more meaningful,” said Park, of the event that will take place at New Korea Country Club from May 9-11.
“The Aramco Korea Championship is such a fantastic addition to the Korean golf calendar, and I can’t wait to be part of it, especially with the team and individual elements,” she added.
Park, known for her powerful game and fearless approach, brings a stellar resumé to the event. With seven LPGA Tour victories to her name – including wins at the 2017 US Women’s Open and 2018 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship – she remains one of the most influential figures in Korean golf.
She will join a host of Korean stars in the field, including world number 13 Kim Hyo-joo, who will return to defend her title following a three-stroke victory at last year’s tournament.
The Aramco Korea Championship features a unique three-day format. The opening two rounds will see 26 teams of four professionals battle it out for a US$500,000 team prize.
The final round will crown the individual champion, who will walk away with the lion’s share of a US$1.5 million purse – one of the largest prize funds on the LET.
Organised by Golf Saudi the tournament continues to elevate women’s golf by bringing world-class competition to new markets. The event also marks another key step in Golf Saudi’s wider mission to grow the game, empower women golfers and create more opportunities for them, and inspire local communities through global sport.
