Hong Kong, SAR: Inspirational Hong Kong junior golfer Andreas Ma enjoyed the experience of a lifetime at LIV Golf Hong Kong where he met his LIV Golf heroes as many of the world’s top golfing stars returned to ‘Asia’s World City’.

Andreas was born with a congenital absence of his left hand, but that has not stopped him pursuing his passion for golf. He is admired by fellow golfers, parents and pros for his unwavering positivity and commitment to achieving an impressive one-handed swing.

Andreas said: “Golf has taught me to persevere, so that has helped me in life a lot; to focus on the thing you’re doing right now, don’t think so far ahead, don’t over complicate things, just do the thing you need to do.”

On how he adapts his golf swing, Andreas added: “Other kids have two hands, they can use both hands to grip their clubs, so when they do their backswings and follow through, they have more control over it. Since I only have one hand that can hold the club, I use my left hand to support my swing when I reach the top, so I can use my left hand to push the club down to get more club speed and try to get more control.”

Andreas paid a visit to Hong Kong Golf Club (HKGC) at Fanling, the host venue for LIV Golf Hong Kong, where he hit the driving range for a one-on-one lesson from Chinese Taipei’s ‘MaxLee Chieh-po, a LIV Golf Wild Card player this season.

Lee said: “I just gave him some tips for how to control the ball and how to hit the ball a little bit higher so he can get more distance.”

Andreas added: “Max taught me how to stop the ball on the green and how to hit my seven-iron and driver higher. He gave me some really great tips, so now I can officially do it!”

When asked to name his favourite golfer, Andreas said: “Bryson DeChambeau … I watch his YouTube [videos].”

Andreas got the opportunity to meet his golf hero on the driving range, with DeChambeau stopping for a chat and signing autographs. Andreas also met five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, and Hong Kong’s rising star Taichi Kho.

Andreas said: “I met Bryson and I also met Brooks. These two are huge players and I wanted to meet them for a long time. This opportunity to see them and get to say hi to them, it’s amazing. I love this!”

The second edition of LIV Golf Hong Kong is taking place this weekend at the Hong Kong Golf Club, a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
