GCSAA Launches Water Use Survey

3.Recycled Grey Water for Irrigation

Lawrence, Kansas, United States: The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is seeking critically needed data from superintendents regarding water use and conservation practices through an in-depth questionnaire sent electronically to superintendents at approximately 14,000 US golf facilities.

The water survey is part of the fourth phase of GCSAA’s Golf Course Environmental Profile (GCEP) survey programme, which will consist of two surveys that are funded by the GCSAA Foundation. The water survey will be followed by the fourth phase Nutrient and Pest Management Survey in the fall of 2025.

Since 2006, the data collected has enabled GCSAA to help members succeed and support the golf industry. GCSAA needs representation from across the US from members, non-members and all facility types.

The Golf Course Environmental Profile survey programme will be administered by GCSAA. The information will be analysed independently by J. Bryan Unruh, PhD and Travis Shaddox, PhD.

“The information from the previous GCEP surveys has been invaluable to our advocacy efforts as it provides scientific documentation of golf’s sustainable practices,” said GCSAA Rhett Evans. “Participation in the survey is crucial to measure change and protect the future of the industry.”

The results from the water use survey will be announced later in 2025 and compared against previous surveys. Phase four is funded through the GCSAA Foundation with support from the United States Golf Association (USGA).
