Laguna National Return for Junior Masters

Laguna National
Laguna National’s Masters Course will stage next month’s Singapore Junior Masters.

Singapore: The Singapore Junior Masters, which has a proud tradition of unearthing future golfing stars, will be back for its fourth edition at Laguna National Golf Resort Club from September 30 to October 2.

Shannon Tan, Singapore’s first golfing Olympian, won the inaugural tournament when it was launched in 2020, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tan successfully defended her title the following year before Hong Kong, China’s Arianna Lau clinched the crown in 2022.

The boys’ titles have been won by Singapore’s Sean Lee and Brandon Han in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Back after a one-year hiatus due to the staging of the Singapore Ladies Masters, this year’s Singapore Junior Masters, sponsored by CarTimes, will welcome promising junior golfers from Thailand, China, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and host nation Singapore.

It will be contested across five categories – Division A (Under-18), Division B (Under-16), Division C (Under-13), Division D (Under-11) and Division E (Under-9) – over three days.

During August, International qualifiers for the Singapore Junior Masters are being held in the Philippines at the Caliraya Springs Golf Club and Sherwood Hills Golf Club.

Lyn Yeo, Founder of LLD Sports and promoter of the Singapore Junior Masters, said: “Developing and promoting the junior golf scene in the region have always been one of the missions for LLD Sports.

“Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided to launch the Singapore Junior Masters so that our juniors could have the opportunity to compete and sharpen their game amid the various social distancing challenges posed then. Shannon, who was only 16 then, showed a glimpse of her talent when she lifted the inaugural title.

“With the return of the Singapore Junior Masters in September, we look forward to witnessing more of such quality players like Shannon coming through the ranks.”
