Brookfield, Wisconsin, United States: Erin Hills Golf Course has hosted some of the game’s most prestigious events, including the 2011 US Amateur and 2017 US Open, and will welcome the 2025 US Women’s Open.
From September 10-13, the site will host the inaugural ‘Design Boot Camp’, where aspiring course designers will learn from some of the game’s top architects, including the trio that designed Erin Hills.
Presented by the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) Foundation, this unique experience is limited to 16 participants, who will have the opportunity of a lifetime to work up close and personal with the likes of Dr Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry and Ron Whitten, the architects behind Erin Hills.
ASGCA Past Presidents Tom Marzolf, Steve Forrest, Damian Pascuzzo, Jason Straka, Jan Bel Jan, Bruce Charlton and Jeff Brauer also will provide architectural education.
The deadline to register is August 1 (should space still be available). The cost is US$20,000 per person, with US$15,000 qualifying for a charitable tax deduction to the ASGCA Foundation.
Those funds will support a number of golf-related charities, including the Clearview Legacy Foundation, Golf Heritage Society, The British Columbia Golf House, and the Wee One Foundation.
The fee covers all materials and supplies, lodging, food and beverage, golf, caddies, special gifts and mementos. Registrants are responsible for their own travel expenses: Erin Hills is 40 miles northwest of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE).
Four teams of students will be guided by two ASGCA instructors, focusing on new holes for undeveloped property adjacent to the championship layout. A full design curriculum will be explored.
Each evening, registrants will enjoy top-level cuisine and ample time to chat with the instructors.
Students and architects will stay on site in spacious golf cottages. Attendees also will play a round at Erin Hills, tackle the five-hole ‘Kettle Loop’, and participate in a friendly competition on the Drumlin putting course.
