Singapore: Multiple Major champion Brooks Koepka led the chorus of approval for Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course following last week’s LIV Golf Singapore.
American Koepka posted a 54-hole total of 15-under-par 201 to claim individual honours, becoming the first player to win four LIV Golf events,
Of the award-winning Serapong layout, Koepka, who will defend his PGA Championship crown at Valhalla next week, said: “It’s a pure golf course. You look at that whole front side – it’s all about positioning and being in the right spot.
“You have to make sure you either hit the fairway or you’re positioned correctly. That’s what I think a good golf course tests you.”
Asked to nominate which of the holes demand excellent ball-striking, Koepka responded: “I think they all do in a certain way. On the front nine, I think (number) six stands out.
“On the back nine, I’d say the 15th. With water down the left you’ve got to be a good ball striker there. You must really commit to your shot and the shape because if you hit it just a little left, it very easily could go in the water. Number 12, as well, is about positioning.”
Joining Koepka in showering the Serapong Course with praise was Cameron Smith, who led the all-Australian Ripper GC to their second successive triumph in the team category.
Having experienced the course before, Smith and his Ripper GC team-mates Marc Leishman, Matt Jones and Lucas Herbert arrived in Singapore in confident mood.
“We had all played this golf course before – and we all like it,” said Smith, the 2022 Open Championship winner.
“I think it’s a very tough driving golf course, but once you get in the fairway you actually have to hit some different shots, which we all love doing,” he added.
