Augusta, Georgia, United States: After a brush with glory at Augusta National, Bryson DeChambeau is now setting his sights on his return to Singapore.
Having held the lead after a first round 65 at the 88th Masters, American DeChambeau eventually ended in a share of sixth place with fellow LIV Golf League player Cameron Smith.
Now his attention is turning from one world-class venue to another with the award-winning Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club staging the seventh stop on the 2024 LIV Golf League from May 3-5.
On his Singapore debut last year he finished tied 19th individually, a performance he’s keen to improve upon on a course that he enjoyed.
The 2020 US Open champion said: “The golf course is exciting. It’s a good test of golf and the greens were in immaculate shape last year.
“So, I’m looking forward to pristine conditions, great fans, a good atmosphere and a good time.
“Last year the fans were awesome. They showed up in waves, and there were great people out there. We loved it.”
As well as aiming for a strong individual showing, DeChambeau is hopeful that Crushers GC, the team of which he is Captain, will continue their dominant form this season.
The Crushers’ line-up includes DeChambeau’s compatriot Charles Howell, England’s Paul Casey and Indian Anirban Lahiri.
DeChambeau said: “I think the four scores counting has really helped all of us. We’re a pretty consistent team, and hopefully, that continues to have pace in that regard.
“We just seem to do well. Just picking that team with four guys that could score anywhere and everywhere is pretty impressive.”
Asked how he views the LIV Golf League’s presence in Asia, he said: “I think the impact is pretty incredible. The amount of individuals that have come up and said: ‘Thank you for bringing this here and being a part of this’ and ‘Thank you for coming’, has been instrumental.
“And I personally can’t thank the fans enough for embracing the product and being a part of it and seeing what we’re truly bringing to communities around the world.”
