Singapore: Aspiring juniors seeking to make headway in golf will get more opportunities to start their journey with a full schedule of tournaments set to tee-off in February.
Following the success of the national junior inter-club league, more than 30 tournaments for juniors across various stages of development will be held at golf clubs around in Singapore in 2024.
Among those participating are Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore Island Country Club, Tanah Merah Country Club, Warren Golf and Country Club, Seletar Country Club, Keppel Golf Club, Mandai Executive Golf Course, Sembawang Country Club and Orchid Country Club.
With the expansion of the age groups from five to 14 years old, more junior golfers can develop their tournament skills while enjoying a quality competitive atmosphere at affordable rates at the SGA-BFG Junior Golf Series 2024.
They will also get the opportunity to vie for the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) Junior Development Order of Merit (JDOOM) – a performance-based points system that acts as the main guide for selection/requalification into SGA Future and Junior squads, as well as selection for international junior tournaments.
The top five juniors in the Boys and Girls ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions respectively in the Junior Order of Merit will also be invited to take part in the season-ending Grand Final at Sentosa Golf Club on December 10, 2024.
“2024 is poised to be an exciting season which will shape the development and growth of the junior golf scene in Singapore in a very positive way,” said Tan Chong Huat, President of the SGA, an Associate Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
“Together with BFG Golf, we have established a pathway for junior golfers to reach their full potential while also unearth promising young golfing talents,” he added.
Lawrence Ng, Founder of BFG Golf, said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce this schedule of events that our junior golfers can finally compete and unleash their full potential.
“BFG Golf is ready to support the SGA’s initiatives and this is also a reflection of our national commitment to provide our future stars with the opportunities to excel in a sport that they love.”
Aamiya Koul, a 12-year-old who has progressed from the SGA’s Future to Junior squad this year, believes the SGA-BFG Junior Golf Series will provide many more opportunities for juniors to start their golfing journey.
Koul, who finished third at the World Stars of Junior Golf Championship in Las Vegas in June, said: “Having made that progression from the Future squad to the SGA Junior squad, I’m thankful to the SGA for giving me these opportunities to improve my golf to a level where I can compete with the best in the world.
“With the launch of the SGA-BFG Junior Golf Series, I believe we will see more juniors coming through the ranks.”
Koul capped a memorable year this month when she emerged victorious at the US Kids Golf India Championship.
In a landmark partnership announced in June, BFG Golf had committed to a three-year financial support of close to S$250,000 for SGA junior golf development programmes.
Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore Island Country Club and Tanah Merah Country Club are all Facility Members of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
