Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam: Not only is Vietnam rapidly becoming one of the world’s most popular golfing getaways but also a much sought-after location for leading golfing tournaments.
Last week, Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An successfully staged the 2023 Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Senior Amateur Championships.
This week attention turns to Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang where former US Open champion Michael Campbell lines up in the inaugural Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam.
Speaking at the Senior Amateur Championships’ prize-giving dinner, APGC Chairman Taimur Hassan Amin said: “This has been my first trip to Vietnam and I have to say that it has far exceeded my expectations.
“Based on what I’ve seen and heard this week, it’s not difficult to understand why Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest growing golfing nations and why it’s becoming such a popular golf tourism hotspot.
“The quality of the golf courses across the country are matched by the service standards and the enthusiasm for the game.
“The Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) deserves a lot of credit for all they are doing to promote and develop the game at all levels.
“It’s encouraging to see the young and energetic administrators from the VGA doing such a fine job behind the scenes. Special thanks to Secretary-General Vu Nguyen, who also represents the APGC on The R&A’s Rules of Golf Committee, and Tournament Director Cuong Khang Bach.
“Their support and hard work was instrumental in ensuring the 2023 APGC Senior Championships were such a success and we look forward to working with them and their staff on many more APGC events in the years ahead.”
Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Department of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), said the staging of tournaments will aid Vietnam’s push to become a must-visit destination for golfing tourists.
He said: “The development of golf tourism will promote job creation, revenue generation and tourism promotion. Vietnam is considered an ideal golf paradise, with mountains, seas, a harmonious climate, good quality golf courses, different in terrain, unique, and attached to resorts.”
