Hong Kong SAR, China: LIV Golf will visit Hong Kong for the first time next spring, with the Hong Kong Golf Club (HKGC) at Fanling hosting LIV Golf Hong Kong from March 8-10, 2024.
LIV Golf Hong Kong will offer total prize money of US$25 million (about HK$195 million), making it among the highest prize money events in the history of Hong Kong sport. It is estimated that the tournament will produce over HK$500 million of direct investment, offering a significant boost to the local economy.
The HKGC said it welcomed the announcement and will closely co-operate with tournament organisers and relevant government departments ‘to successfully host this globally significant sporting and entertainment spectacle’.
“LIV Golf is far more than a golf tournament – it is a globally anticipated super sports championship,” said Andy Kwok, Club Captain at the HKGC, a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
Kwok added: “Its debut in Hong Kong represents a milestone in the city’s efforts to attract iconic mega events. It will bring massive benefits to Hong Kong in terms of economy, international image and reputation, and golf development.
“The Club, which has extensive experience in hosting international tournaments, is honoured to bring this mega event to Hong Kong. We will do our very best so that guests from around the world will experience Hong Kong’s unique charm and appeal at the Fanling golf course.”
Top golfers from all over the world will be heading to Hong Kong to compete in the tournament.
LIV Golf Hong Kong will not only offer fans from across the mainland, including the Greater Bay Area, and further afield (such as Japan and Korea) an opportunity to watch world-class golf up close, but also bring hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of economic benefits to the city.
Officials said LIV Golf’s decision to stage its first event in the Special Administrative Region of China will further boost Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s World City in addition to underlining the experience and quality of the 112-year-old Fanling facility.
