Scottsdale, Arizona, United States: Troon and Troon-affiliated facilities around the world are raising funds for breast cancer research and awareness about breast cancer prevention and screening exams throughout the month of October.
Troon-affiliated golf properties will fly pink-checkered flags on their 18th greens to help raise awareness about breast cancer and will have various fund-raising events to support PLAY for P.I.N.K. and other breast cancer charity organisations.
PLAY for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) supports a nationwide network of volunteers who raise money for breast cancer research through sporting and lifestyle events to speed advances in prevention, detection, treatment and survivorship.
PLAY for P.I.N.K. donates 100 per cent of its proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Throughout October, Troon-managed facilities will host golf clinics, putting challenges and fun playing opportunities. In addition, Troon has made it easier than ever to donate to PLAY for P.I.N.K. and breast cancer research by creating a QR code and a donation-landing page.
The QR code will be displayed at Troon-affiliated facilities around the globe, as members and guests can scan the QR code, then direct their PLAY for P.I.N.K. donation through their favourite Troon-affiliated facility.
Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, California got a jump on the fund-raising, holding a PLAY for P.I.N.K. golf tournament on September 1. The event raised more than US$55,000 for breast cancer research and awareness. Similar breast cancer charity fund-raising events will be held at Troon-affiliated facilities throughout October, including:
In addition to the fund-raising efforts in September and October at Troon-affiliated facilities, numerous Troon associates also work throughout the year in raising awareness about breast cancer.
One example is Robbie Lemming, General Manager at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Atlantis Paradise Island in The Bahamas. Lemming is the 2023 Warrior of the Year Award recipient for his outstanding support and contributions to the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, a national African American breast cancer survivorship organisation.
“Robbie is the consummate club hospitality professional,” said Matt Hurley, Executive Vice President at Troon, an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
“He not only does an excellent job overseeing club operations but believes in community and community involvement. We congratulate Robbie for his fund-raising efforts and being recognised as ‘Warrior of the Year’ for the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group,” added Hurley.
Al Hamra Golf Club and The Els Club Desaru Coast are both Facility Members of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
