Frisco, Texas, United States: Sean Thornberry has been promoted to the position of Director of Global Development with the PGA of America.

“With this elevated position, I’m looking forward to continuing the mission of the PGA of America to serve our members and grow the game of golf around the world,” said Thornberry, previously Senior Global Development Lead.

Thornberry already has a global outlook having been born and raised in Dubai before moving to the United States to further his studies en route to becoming a Class ‘A’ member of the PGA of America.

Thornberry is currently serving his second term as a Board Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF). The PGA of America is an Executive Member of the AGIF.

He said: “Asia has been the pre-eminent growth market for our game and we don’t see that trend slowing down anytime soon. We’ve been actively positioning our members and organisation in areas where we can provide value – including our involvement with the AGIF and partnerships with golf facility operators across the region.

“Wider collaboration within the game is needed and it’s important for the PGA of America to have a voice at the AGIF table, contributing alongside other like-minded organisations in moving Asian golf in the right direction.”

Chris Gray, President of the AGIF, said: “Congratulations to Sean on his well-deserved promotion. It’s testament to the outstanding work he’s done in raising the profile of the PGA of America around the world.

“The AGIF is proud to have the PGA of America as an Executive Member and to have Sean serving on the Board. His support and input over the past two years has been considerable and we look forward to more important contributions from him in the months and years ahead.”

Composed of more than 28,000 PGA Professionals who work daily to grow interest and participation in golf, the PGA of America is one of the world’s largest sports organisations.
