Flagstick Pride in Bangkok Venue

Stonehill will host the US$25 million LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok next week.

Bangkok, Thailand: Martin Moore and his team at Flagstick GCCM (Golf Course Construction Management) will be watching on with pride when the richest golf tournament ever held on Asian soil tees-off in Bangkok next week.

With a purse of US$25 million on offer, the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok (October 7-9) will feature a 48-strong field including 12 Major champions and four former world number ones.

It will also be the first time that the newly-minted Stonehill venue has been exposed to the world.

Sculpted by Kyle Phillips, the exclusive Bangkok course is the latest top-class project undertaken by Flagstick, whose portfolio includes more than 120 courses in 17 countries over a span of almost quarter-of-a-century.

“You couldn’t wish for a more fitting venue for such a huge tournament,” said Moore, President of Flagstick, a Full Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

He added: “Kyle has created a spectacular design. He took a typical flat piece of Bangkok land and turned it into a gently rolling site.

“If you didn’t know, you would have thought:  ‘Wow! What a great piece of natural rolling property on which to build a golf course’.”

In addition to the 18-hole layout which can stretch to 7,800 yards from the back tees, the venue boasts a world-class driving range and short game area.

Brought in to provide construction management and key construction personnel services, Moore installed a strong and respected team of professionals, led by Marcus Reams, a long-time Flagstick Project Manager.

“From start to finish, the project took three years to build with much of the construction taking place during the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic, presenting a host of challenging obstacles that we were able to overcome,” said Moore, who praised Course Superintendent Darren Moore for his efforts in ‘keeping the turf grass in immaculate condition’.

Jebsen & Jessen/Toro (irrigation) and Sports Turf Solutions (grassing) were other Asian Golf Industry Federation members that played a part in the making of Stonehill.

“For all of us who were involved with this very special project it’s going to be a fabulous feeling to witness so many of the world’s finest golfers teeing-off in the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok. I’m sure it’s going to be a truly memorable week,” said Moore.

Moore and his team won’t be able to bask in glory for too long. “We remain very active in Vietnam with three on-going projects … and more in the planning stages for a first quarter start in 2023,” said Moore, adding that Flagstick is also involved with a new undertaking in Saudi Arabia at which ground has recently been broken.
