Danang, Vietnam: With Vietnam fully reopened and tourism back in full swing, experts are tipping the nation to become an even bigger noise in golf travel.

“Demand is surging once again,” said Mark Siegel, Director of golf tour operators Golfasian, whose company is organising the AccorHotels Vietnam World Masters Golf Championship from September 11-17.

He added: “Before, I would have said that anyone serious about golf travel should be coming to Vietnam at least once in their life. With world-class courses opening all the time, I would revise that to say that you’d need to return every few years to do the place justice.”

Siegel will discuss in detail the growth in popularity of Danang as a golf destination when he delivers a keynote address at the inaugural Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) Danang Conference on August 30.

Held in conjunction with Danang Tourism and the BRG Group, the AGIF Danang Conference will specifically focus on sustainability in golf course design, golf course maintenance and operations, the growing role of women in golf and golf tourism recovery in the post-Covid era.

Chris Gray, President of the AGIF, said: “We have put together an exceptional line-up of expert speakers. As far as golf tourism is concerned, there are few people who can match Mark’s knowledge and experience.

“It will be fascinating to hear his perspectives on some of the early Covid recovery trends he’s witnessing as well as challenges clubs are facing as they prepare to host international guests.”

Global accolades for Vietnam, including the title of World’s Best Golf Destination at the 2021 World Golf Awards, has fuelled demand for travel during a period when Vietnam’s borders remained closed.

Siegel said: “With high-quality golf combining with incredible beaches and luxury resorts, Central Vietnam is arguably the nation’s hub for golf tourism. It offers a range of attractions, including the heritage sites in history-steeped Hoi An.”

One of the other highlights on day two (August 30) will be a trade exhibition at which member companies of the AGIF, along with other golf-related organisations, can showcase their wares.

The AGIF Danang Conference forms part of a week-long golfing festival in Danang that will also see BRG Da Nang Golf Resort play host to a 54-hole event on the Asian Development Tour (ADT), the Asian Tour’s feeder circuit.
