Cairo, Egypt: The second iteration of the Egypt Troon Cup kicked off with a match between The Allegria and Madinaty Golf Club, two flagship properties managed and operated by Troon under the Troon Golf brand.
The match was the second in the past six months, with the concept designed to create friendly competition between the two Troon-managed properties.
The 20-a-side match play tournament at Madinaty Golf Club was contested in a Ryder Cup-style format with The Allegria emerging victorious.
Following lunch, a prize giving ceremony was held with members of the winning team receiving medals to go along with bragging rights. They also took the tournament trophy back to their clubhouse.
A rematch is scheduled for September at The Allegria’s Greg Norman Signature Golf Course.
This friendly tournament continues to strengthen and is beginning to foster a social aspect between the clubs. Members of both clubs can already benefit from Troon Advantage rates to enjoy a secondary Troon course.
The Allegria is located close to the Great Pyramids of Giza, while Madinaty Golf Club lies to the east of Cairo, in close proximity to Cairo International Airport. For those looking to combine luxurious Egyptian hospitality with golf at the Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed course, Madinaty Golf Club has teamed up with the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Cairo.
Josh North, General Manager at Madinaty Golf Club, said: “Despite the result, all of us at Madinaty Golf Club have really enjoyed working closely with team at The Allegria. Once again, two Troon-managed golf clubs have come together to create a unique experience for our local golfers to enjoy. Thanks to our agronomy team for ensuring the golf course was in peak condition.”
Madinaty Golf Club, which opened in late 2020, is already playing an active role in the Egyptian golf scene having hosted the Egyptian Amateur Championship and implemented a grow-the-game programme of ‘Girls Go Golf’ introducing more than 50 females to the game.
Troon is an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
