Hanoi, Vietnam: The long-term vision of Madame Nguyen Thi Nga has paid rich dividends for Vietnam’s BRG Group.
As Founder and Chairman of the BRG Group, the far-sighted Madame Nga has been the driving force behind the expansion of a dynamic, multi-faceted company that is now one of the leading private multi-sector economic groups in Vietnam.
It was in 1993 that Madame Nga launched BRG – an abbreviation of banking, real estate, and golf, presenting the three strategic fields that the company focuses on. Today, the company employs a workforce of 22,000.
Given that golf was in its infancy in Vietnam in the early 1990s, Madame Nga is often asked how and why golf fit into her overall vision for the BRG Group.
“We focused on golf from the very beginning because of its potential development in Vietnam, not only in sports but also in high end entertainment and tourism,” said Madame Nga, during an exclusive interview with the Asian Golf Industry Federation as part of its Women in Sports series.
“Golf is known as an ecological and sustainable sport. Therefore, natural factors play an extremely important role in its development. Vietnam fully converges the most ideal conditions for developing unique and high level golf courses with a long coastline, mountainous terrain and distinct geographical features.
“We have seen the big value of the golf industry to tourism, not only in Southeast Asia but all over the world. And this sector will certainly be of high potential for economies of many countries in the future.
“Corresponding to that potential, what we need to do now is to develop this high-class sport, quickly close the gap compared to the development of the world and plant the Vietnamese flag on the global map.”
Madame Nga and the BRG Group are certainly playing their part.
As of the start of 2022, the BRG Group owns and operates seven international golf courses in Vietnam, including BRG Kings Island Golf Resort (55 holes) and BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort (18 holes) both in Hanoi; BRG Ruby Tree Golf Resort in Hai Phong (18 holes), BRG Da Nang Golf Resort (36 holes) and the BRG Golf Centre golf academy system, all under an exclusive co-operation agreement with Jack Nicklaus Golf Design and Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf.
