Scottsdale, Arizona, United States: Troon has been selected by Florida State University to manage Seminole Legacy Golf Club, a newly renovated facility that offers an exceptional golf experience in Tallahassee, Florida.
Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, will manage golf and club operations, food and beverage, golf course agronomy, and membership relations and marketing.
Florida State University’s Seminole Legacy Golf Club is among the premier university golf courses in the country and hosted an NCAA Men’s Regional Championship this past spring. The golf course underwent a US$10 million renovation in 2020 led by Nicklaus Design company.
The scope of the renovation included a complete redesign of the golf course, with only one hole remaining from the original routing. The new Nicklaus Design golf course sits on 174 acres, measures 7,800 yards, plays to a par-72, has two practice ranges and includes a new 12-hole par-three course for the university’s golf teams. All tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, greens and cart paths are new.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Florida State University and Seminole Legacy Golf Club,” said Mitch Harrell, Executive Vice President, Troon Golf, an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation. “The newly renovated golf course is outstanding, the clubhouse is immaculate and the university’s commitment to providing members with a premier private club experience is clear. We’ll look to further elevate the member experience by delivering superior service, amenities and playing surfaces.”
Originally designed by Bill Amick, the course opened in 1962. For years, the club has served as the home of Florida State University’s men’s and women’s golf teams and still does today.
“Florida State has contracted with one of the premier organisations in the golf industry to ensure that our outstanding Seminole Legacy Golf Club continues to deliver an exceptional experience for our patrons and student-athletes,” said Florida State University Vice President for Finance and Administration Kyle Clark. “Under the new agreement, Troon will be responsible for all maintenance and management of the club, including the state-of-the-art facilities for our inter-collegiate teams.”
Club amenities include The Burr Family Renegade Grill, a contemporary clubhouse, a golf shop and on-site PGA-certified staff.
Seminole Legacy offers a variety of memberships designed for Florida State University students, faculty and staff, and friends of the University. All current memberships, including student and faculty/staff memberships, will transfer to under the new Troon management agreement with no change in fees.
Troon operates a number of facilities with college ties, including Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona, home of Arizona State University’s golf teams; Atkins Golf Club at the University of Illinois; and Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa, home to the University of Iowa’s golf teams.
