USGA Opens Nominations for 2022 Bob Jones Award

Liberty Corner, New Jersey, United States: The United States Golf Association (USGA) is seeking nominations from the global golf community for the 2022 Bob Jones Award, the highest honour annually presented by the organisation and celebrated at the US Open championship.

Presented since 1955, the Bob Jones Award highlights the most noteworthy demonstrations of sportsmanship in golf, and celebrates those individuals who, in the spirit of its namesake, have displayed character, integrity and respect while playing the game.

Beyond his playing career – with a record-tying nine USGA championship titles – Jones embodied the game’s values throughout his life.

Bob Jones set a standard for greatness, and this award showcases the players who live by that same timeless sense of honour and humility through every round they play,” said Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA.

“It elevates all that is good and inspiring about golf and gives the game role models that our kids and each generation of golfers can aspire to become,” he added.

Nominations and recommendation letters can be submitted to the USGA via email to bobjonesaward@usga.org. The correspondence should include support for the submission that references the above award criteria. The deadline for receipt is October 29.

Notable past recipients of the Bob Jones Award include Francis Ouimet, Babe Zaharias, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Peggy Kirk Bell, Nancy Lopez, Nick Price, Payne Stewart, Annika Sorenstam, Lee Elder and 2020 recipient Pak Se-ri. Six-time USA Walker Cup competitor and two-time captain Bob Lewis was the 2021 honoree. A complete list can be found here.

The 2022 recipient will be announced in February and will be formally honoured during the week of the 122nd US Open championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.
