Hong Kong: Hong Kong Golf Club (HKGC) Captain Clarence Leung has pledged the club’s continued support for staging outdoor competition and training facilities for a variety of sports.
“The club has been an important facility in Hong Kong for promoting diversified sports development for many years,” said Leung, speaking after the Fanling facility’s Old Course hosted the Third Inter-Secondary Schools Golf Competition.
Leung added: “The Inter-Secondary Schools Golf Competition on the Old Course is a key opportunity for young local players to advance their skills through competition.
“Another example is the Inter-School Cross Country Competition, which has been hosted on the Old Course since 1979 and will take place again this coming winter.
“The club will continue to provide outdoor competition and training facilities for a variety of other sports, helping athletes to stay in shape for future events.”
Supported by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation, the Inter-Secondary Schools Golf Competition was co-organised by the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) and the Hong Kong Golf Club, a Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
Kenneth Lam, President of the HKGA, said: “We are pleased to have hosted the Inter-Secondary Schools Golf Competition successfully, despite the pandemic. The competition offers a platform for secondary school golfers to accumulate experience.
“The outstanding performances are the fruit of diligent training in difficult times. In addition to the competition, the HKGA has also made great efforts to re-initiate various youth training programmes and activities, including the Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, which was hosted in March, and the HSBC Junior Golf Series for students.
“We will continue striving to provide more actual experience and exchange opportunities for emerging Hong Kong golf talent and promote the sport in schools.”
The first Inter-Secondary Schools Golf Competition to be held since the pandemic attracted 25 teams from 20 schools. A total of 80 golfers participated.
