Bintan, Indonesia: Ria Bintan Golf Club, one of the jewels in Indonesia’s golfing crown, has joined the Asian Golf Industry Federation.

Spectacularly located near the northern coast of Bintan Island with breathtaking views of the South China Sea, Ria Bintan’s Certified Audubon International Classic and Cooperative Sanctuary 18-hole Ocean Course and nine-hole Forest Course were designed by South African great Gary Player.

While the Ocean Course unfolds next to the South China Sea, offering tantalising ocean views, the Forest Course is set amid mature woodlands. Meanwhile, the Ria Bintan Golf Lodge and other clubhouse facilities ensure a complete stay-and-play experience.

Opened in 1998, the club that celebrated its 21st anniversary last year is a one-hour ferry ride from Singapore. The milestone year was marked with a refreshed membership programme among a host of activities and events.

John Yap, Ria Bintan’s General Manager, said: “Ria Bintan has had a loyal following of supporters and members for many years now, golfers who come to golf regularly at the club. They simply love our Ocean Course and signature holes.

“For our 21st anniversary, we refreshed and relaunched our Elite Golf Plan membership with a stepped-up level of member recognition, services and dedicated communications, as well as exclusive access to new member-only events and programmes.

“This has brought together like-minded golfers who can get together to enjoy activities, medals and social golf getaways. Additional goodies and benefits include golf sets, a ton of other privileges as well as same-rate fees for the next renewal.”

In 2009, Ria Bintan became the first course in Indonesia to receive the Certified Audubon International Classic and Cooperative Sanctuary certification from world-renowned green champion, Audubon International.

“This status recognises our leadership, commitment and high standards towards environmental stewardship,” said Yap. “At Ria Bintan Golf Club, a great game of golf with respect for nature and wildlife goes hand-in-hand.”

Eric Lynge, the Asian Golf Industry Federation’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Ria Bintan is firmly established as one of the ‘must play’ courses in Asia. We’re pleased to welcome Ria Bintan into the Federation’s fold as a Golf Course Facility Member.”
