Gwadar, Pakistan: A large Chinese state-owned construction firm has been signed up to build a luxury golf development in Pakistan under the umbrella of the US$62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to a report on the website of the Chartered Institute of Building, China Pak Golf Estates is planned as a US$265 million gated golf community spread over 6.7 million square feet in the port city of Gwadar on Pakistan’s Arabian Sea coast.
Gwadar is the terminus of the CPEC, a network of roads, energy projects, and industrial developments linking western China down the length of Pakistan to the Arabian Sea, a flagship of China’s Belt and Road initiative.
A spokesperson for China Pak Golf Estates said the project is set to become ‘the most desirable residential and lifestyle address in Gwadar’.
“It has a location to be envied – occupying the most prominent position by straddling both sides of the N-10 Coastal Highway – the 653-kilometre highway which serves as Gwadar’s main artery and extends along Pakistan’s Arabian Sea coast all the way to the financial hub of Karachi,” said the spokesperson.
London-based developer CPIC has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to build the community, reported The Nation.
CPIC is a private investment company developing money-making schemes in Gwadar on the back of CPEC, which is being financed and built by Chinese entities.
CCECC is a large builder, and a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation.
